Asian Tech Press (Oct 13) -- The US and EU plan to create a joint tariff zone against Chinese steel and aluminum products.

The EU and the U.S. are set to join forces to create a joint tariff zone that would impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from non-market economies such as China, according to a European Commission proposal.

The proposal showed the U.S. and EU agreeing to impose tariffs of 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum from China.

Notably, U.S. media outlet POLITICO reported on the matter on Wednesday.

The report said U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai acknowledged this, but cautioned that the U.S. proposals have been "very, very difficult" for the EU to accept.

European Commission President Von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel will meet with U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House next week.
