According to Reuters, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) is investigating if the use of personal data of American users by Riot Games and Epic Games poses a national security risk to the United States.
The committee has the authority to require Tencent to divest from U.S. companies. Still, the two sides are negotiating for Tencent to retain a controlling stake in Riot Games and Epic Games while withdrawing from other companies.
It remains possible that the two sides may not reach an agreement, and details of the negotiations have not been disclosed.
