Asia Tech Wire (June 5) -- Chinese solar panel maker Trina Solar has responded to reports of a production shutdown at its Thailand plant.

There were reports on Wednesday that the Thai factory of Chinese company Trina Solar has recently entered a shutdown phase.

In particular, the plant's module production lines halted at the end of May, while the cell production lines are due to cease production around June 13th.

In response, Trina Solar said, "First of all, the company's production capacity in Thailand and Vietnam is about to enter a shutdown for maintenance, which happens every year in the middle of the year."

The company said that demand in the U.S. market has been experiencing some fluctuations due to the policy environment, so the company is making dynamic and optimal adjustments to its production plans based on industry and market conditions.

Trina Solar added it has already laid out module capacity in the U.S. and cell assembly capacity in Indonesia, both under construction.

Its Indonesia plant is due to go into operation in the third quarter of 2024, and the joint venture partner of the project is Indonesia's state utility Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN).

Previously, there were industry rumors that Trina Solar's Chinese counterpart, LONGi, will gradually shut down its photovoltaic module plant in Malaysia starting this week, while its five production lines in the Vietnamese cell factory have all ceased operation.

LONGi explained that the company is continuing to promote digital upgrading and technological transformation of factories in its global bases, which has led to the adjustment of production plans in different regional bases.
