Toshiba says chip shortage may last until March 2023 due to Ukraine crisis

Asian Tech Press (Mar. 7) -- Japanese electronics giant Toshiba Corp (TYO:6502) said Monday that chip shortages may last until March 2023 due to Ukraine crisis.

Bloomberg quoted Hiroyuki Sato, head of Toshiba's devices unit, as saying, "The sense of shortages hasn't changed at all, and we expect the current tight supply will last until March next year at the earliest."

Ukraine is a major supplier of purified rare gases such as neon and krypton, both critical for semiconductor manufacturing.

According to TrendForce data, Ukraine accounts for nearly 70% of global neon gas capacity.
