Asian Tech Press (SEP 28) -- The number of short-video social platform TikTok's global monthly active users has reportedly exceeded 1 billion.

The data shows that TikTok had about 55 million users worldwide as of January 2018. By December 2018, that number grew to more than 270 million and then grew to 507 million in December 2019. Last summer, TikTok reached nearly 700 million monthly active users.

TikTok became the first non-Facebook app to reach 3 billion downloads worldwide in July this year, TikTok Chief Operating Officer Vanessa Pappas said in a social media post on Monday.

TikTok, a short-video social platform owned by China's ByteDance, was launched in May 2017 and has grown steadily, with monthly activity now exceeding 1 billion.
