Tesla wins appeal by Chinese consumer alleging brake failure

Asia Tech Wire (Aug 5) -- A Chinese consumer has lost an appeal accusing Tesla of brake failure.

Recently, the case between Tesla and a Xi'an car owner over the infringement of the right of reputation has come to the second trial judgment.

According to the latest judgment, the car owner, surnamed Li, who was one of the core members of the Shanghai Auto Show incident, should compensate Tesla 70,000 yuan, versus 2,000 yuan in the first trial.

A Chinese court rejected the woman's appeal claim, while commissioning a professional organization to appraise the vehicle in question.

In its appraisal opinion, the institution pointed out that the braking system of the Tesla vehicle was normal, effective and trouble-free, and complied with the relevant technical standards.

In March 2021, the woman suffered a traffic accident while driving her Tesla car and claimed that the cause of the accident was the Tesla's "brake failure".

And in April 2021, Li protested at the Tesla booth at the Shanghai Auto Show.

Previously, a court ruled that another woman who stood on the roof of a car to protest at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show had violated Tesla's right to reputation, requiring her to apologize and pay 170,000 yuan in damages to Tesla.
