Asian Tech Press (May 6) -- Tesla plans to resume two shifts at its Shanghai plant as early as mid-May to increase the plant's electric vehicle production.

The U.S. EV maker aims to produce 2,600 electric cars a day at the Shanghai plant starting May 16, which will bring the output at the plant back to pre-epidemic levels, people familiar with the matter said.

In April, Tesla's Shanghai plant was shut down for three weeks and resumed production at the end of April under a "closed-loop system", in which workers live on site and are regularly tested.

Another person familiar with the matter said last month that Tesla's inventory could run for just over two weeks under the closed-loop plan, and that logistics were a major problem for many other parts.
