Asian Tech Press (Nov 24) -- Tesla Inc. reportedly has a backlog of more than 1.2 million Cybertruck reservations worth more than $80 billion, according to the latest statistics.

But Tesla still does not seem to have scheduled any production plans yet, and has been slow to mention matters related to mass production. In the meantime, Tesla is still taking reservations for the model.

The website Electrek reported Monday that Tesla's most optimistic estimate now is that the Cybertruck will begin production at the end of 2022.

In November 2019, Tesla officially unveiled the Cybertruck, its first electric pickup truck. With its globally unique exterior design, the model has gained a global following among consumers, with countless people paying a $100 deposit in hopes of getting their cars early.

Tesla CEO and founder Elon Musk had previously tweeted, "To be frank, there is always some chance that Cybertruck will flop, because it is so unlike anything else. I don't care. I love it so much even if others don't. Other trucks look like copies of the same thing, but Cybertruck looks like it was made by aliens from the future."

Elon Musk Twitted about the Cybertruck.
