Tesla gets 100,000 EV order from car leasing vendor Hertz

Asian Tech Press (OCT 26) -- Hertz announced on Monday that it will order 100,000 Tesla electric cars to form the largest electric car rental fleet in North America.

In addition to the 100,000 electric vehicle orders by the end of 2022, Hertz will also order electric vehicle charging facilities from Tesla to facilitate its fleet's global operations, according to the company's website.

Hertz also announced they will partner with seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady to promote electric vehicle leasing to accelerate its commitment to lead the future of travel and tourism.

Starting in early November through the end of December, customers will be able to lease Model 3s at airports, neighborhoods in major U.S. cities and selected cities in Europe. Hertz is also installing thousands of charging stations at their operating locations. Customers who lease Model 3s from Hertz will also have access to Tesla's 3,000 Superchargers in Europe and the United States.

According to media reports, Hertz's order for 100,000 electric cars and charging facilities from Tesla is for $4.2 billion. Tesla's stock price rose sharply on Monday. At the close of trading on Monday, Tesla was trading at $1,024.86, up $115.18 from the previous session's closing price, and its market value also reached $1,026.671 billion, exceeding $1 trillion for the first time.
