Asian Tech Press -- Tesla Inc.'s electric vehicle sales in China have plummeted by nearly 70%, according to statistics.

Tesla's sales in China plunged nearly 70% in July, hitting its lowest sales in nearly 15 months since April 2020, according to PCA data cited by Bloomberg.

China's EV market data in July

Wholesale sales of Tesla in China in July 2021 were 32,968 units, of which 24,347 were exported, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

It is worth noting that exports of China-made Tesla electric car exceeded 20,000 units for the first time in July, with Model 3 reaching a record high of 16,137 units and Model Y exporting 8,210 units.

Based on the above data, Tesla's retail sales in China in July was only 8,621 units, including 6,477 units of Model 3 and 2,144 units of Model Y.

After checking and calculating, it was found that in June, Tesla sold 28,138 units in China after deducting the export data. Compared with June, Tesla's sales in China dropped by 69.36% in July.

In response, Tesla CEO Musk responded to the issue on Twitter on Thursday, saying, "TTesla makes cars for export in first half of quarter & for local market in second half."

In addition, Musk mentioned, "As publicly disclosed, we are operating under extreme supply chain limitations regarding certain “standard” automotive chips. Most problematic by far are Renesas & Bosch."

According to Musk, the two largest automotive chip suppliers in the world are affecting Tesla's production.
