Tesla Vice President Tao Lin said at a roundtable held by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) that the data collected in China will keep in China.
Tao’s statement is related to the privacy concerns about Tesla vehicles.
Tesla vehicle features in-car cameras, but a hacker recently exposed the Tesla owner’s in-car driving video, the incident has sparked widespread debate. Many Chinese Tesla owners are worried about privacy leaks.
The Chinese government concerns that the in-car camera would capture sensitive information and transmit it to the United States. Beijing has restricted the use of Tesla vehicles by military personnel out of national security.
To dispel the privacy concerns of Chinese customers, Tesla said, “The in-car cameras are not activated in China.”
