According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, the global smartphone user base has grown dramatically from 30,000 in 1994 to 1 billion in 2012, reaching a record 3.95 billion by June 2021.
With an estimated 7.9 billion people worldwide in June 2021, this means that 50% of the world's population now owns a smartphone. It has taken 27 years to reach this historic milestone. Neil Mawston, executive director of Strategy Analytics, predicts that 5 billion people worldwide will be using smartphones by 2030.
