Starlink applies to launch 7,500 additional LEO satellites in Brazil
Jul.29,2024

Asia Tech Wire (July 29) -- Elon Musk's Starlink has applied to launch an additional 7,500 low earth orbit (LEO) satellites for its second-generation network, or "Gen 2" in Brazil, on top of the existing 4,408, according to UOL.

In response to this request, Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) has launched a public consultation.

However, the deliberation process is complex, mainly due to the fact that Starlink Gen2 operates in the Ka, Ku and E frequency bands, and therefore needs to explore additional radio frequency bands in its operations, including 71GHz to 76Hz and 81GHz to 86GHz.

Anatel's review will focus on avoiding the risk of co-channel interference between Starlink Gen2 satellites and other satellites already operating in the system.
