Asian Tech Press (Nov 24) -- Sony PlayStation is being accused of gender discrimination and wrongful termination in a lawsuit, according to Axios. According to the details of the lawsuit, former IT security analyst Emma Majo is seeking to file a class action lawsuit to represent other women who may have been affected by alleged gender discrimination in PlayStation.
The lawsuit alleges that "Sony tolerates and creates a work environment that discriminates against female employees," claiming that women are denied promotions and are not paid the same as male employees in similar positions.
In the PlayStation lawsuit, Emma Majo describes her experience as a female Sony employee from 2015 to 2021, claiming that the company consistently refused to answer her questions about how she was promoted and that she was demoted for asking about it. Majo said she heard managers make "gender-biased comments to female employees," suggesting that women were more "emotional" and "less professional" than male employees.
In addition, the lawsuit alleges that Majo submitted a signed statement to Sony and was fired "shortly thereafter." Majo contends that she was wrongfully terminated because of her gender and because she spoke about discrimination against women.
