Asian Tech Press (SEP 06) -- According to media reports, South Korea's SK Innovation has signed a battery supply contract with Chinese electric vehicle company XPeng.
Industry sources said XPeng had previously been supplied with all its batteries by Chinese company CATL.
After building a joint venture with BAIC Motor in Changzhou, China last year, SK Innovation signed a contract with XPeng this July to supply high nickel batteries with 80% nickel content. This means SK Innovation has entered the Chinese electric vehicle battery supply chain.
Founded in 2014, Xpeng, also known as XMotors.ai, is a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer listed on New York Stock Exchange.
