Asia Tech Wire (May 31) -- A South Korean court has ordered SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won to pay $1 billion in his divorce settlement case.
The Seoul High Court on Thursday ruled that Chey divide 1.38 trillion won ($1 billion) in property and pay 2 billion won in alimony to his estranged wife, Roh So-young, daughter of former South Korean President Roh Tae-woo.
Notably, this is South Korea's most expensive divorce case to date.
The judge found that ordering Chey to pay 66.5 billion won in property division and 100 million won in alimony at the first trial in December 2022, was far from enough compensation for Roh, considering that Chey's career benefited from her and her father.
