Singapore warns: cryptocurrencies are too risky for retail investors

In response to a question in Parliament on Monday, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said, “Cryptocurrencies can be very volatile because their value is usually unrelated to any economic fundamentals. Therefore, they are extremely risky as investment products and certainly not suitable for retail investors.”
