Samsung SDI to build a lithium-ion battery factory for EV makers in the US.
According to sources, Samsung SDI, which is responsible for Samsung's battery business, will build a lithium-ion battery factory in the United States to produce batteries for electric vehicles.
Samsung SDI aims to start constructing the plant in 2023 and plans to complete construction in about two years and put it into operation in 2025. However, Samsung SDI has not yet determined the plant's location in the US, and whether it will build a joint venture with other manufacturers has not yet been finalized.
This plant that Samsung SDI plans to build will be the company's first battery production plant in the United States. Samsung SDI is currently exporting batteries to the US, which are then assembled into battery packs. With the plant's construction in the US, the supply capacity to US customers will significantly increase.
