Asian Tech Press (Dec 16) -- Samsung recently introduced a series of high-end automotive memory solutions designed for next-generation self-driving electric vehicle applications.
The new lineup includes 256GB PCIe Gen3 NVMe ball grid array (BGA) packaged SSDs for high-performance in-vehicle infotainment systems, 2GB GDDR6 and 2GB DDR4 DRAM products, and 2GB GDDR6 DRAM and 128GB UFS (Universal Flash Storage) products for autonomous driving systems.
Samsung Electronics said that with the popularity of electric vehicles and the rapid development of infotainment and autonomous driving systems, semiconductor automotive platforms are facing a paradigm shift, with the previous 7-8 year replacement cycle now compressed to 3-4 years, while performance and capacity are increasing to levels common in server applications.
At the same time, advanced features in infotainment systems, such as HD maps, video streaming, and 3D gaming, as well as autonomous driving systems, are becoming more frequently used, driving the development of high-capacity, high-performance SSDs and Graphics DRAM products throughout the automotive industry.
