Samsung Electronics to start mass-producing 2nm chips in 2025
Oct.11,2021

Asian Tech Press (OCT 11) -- Samsung Electronics announced that it will start mass production of 2nm chips in 2025. The company will continue to develop cutting-edge manufacturing technologies to compete with its rivals Intel and TSMC.

According to media reports, Samsung Electronics' 2nm mass production plan is about one year later than TSMC and Intel. However, TSMC and Intel plan to introduce GAA in the 2nm process, thus giving Samsung Electronics an advantage in technical stability and yield.

In late June this year, Samsung announced that its 3nm process technology had officially flowed. The company's 3nm process reportedly uses the GAA architecture, with better performance than TSMC's 3nm FinFET architecture. However, Samsung did not disclose when the 3nm GAA process would be in mass production.

At a recent foundry forum, Samsung said it plans to start producing customer-designed 3nm chips from the first half of 2022, with the second generation of 3nm chips expected to be produced in 2023.
