Asian Tech Press (Nov 22) -- According to media reports, Samsung Electronics has introduced various design tools and technologies related to the 3nm chip manufacturing process that will help strengthen the foundry ecosystem.
Samsung Electronics' 3nm process will be based on GAA technology. Compared with the 5nm process based on FinFET technology, Samsung's first 3nm GAA process node will improve performance by 30%, reduce power consumption by 50%, and reduce the chip size by 35%.
In October, Samsung Electronics announced that it will start mass production of 3nm chips in the first half of 2022, a schedule that will precede TSMC. It is reported that TSMC plans to mass-produce 3-nanometer chips in July 2022. If Samsung Electronics' plan is followed, it will become the world's first foundry to mass-produce 3nm chips.
