The Korea Fair Trade Commission (FTC) has decided to fine five Samsung Group companies a total of 234.9 billion won for sweetheart deals with foodservice subsidiary Samsung Welstory. FTC also charged Choi Gee-sung, the former head of Samsung Electronics and Samsung Future Strategy Office, to the prosecution.
The FTC announced on June 24 that it had decided to impose the aforementioned penalties on Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Samsung SDI for providing excessively preferential food service contracts to Samsung Welstory helping it earn huge profits.
