Asian Tech Press -- China's largest automaker SAIC Motor Corp Ltd (600104: SHH) cannot accept cooperation with a third-party company like Huawei for self-driving cars, the chairman of the company said at its shareholders' meeting on Wednesday.
On June 30, SAIC Motor held its 2020 annual shareholders' meeting, hosted by Chairman Chen Hong.
At the meeting, an investor asked whether the company would consider cooperating with third-party companies such as Huawei for autonomous driving.
The investor said many car companies are currently focusing on the advancement of the self-driving car business. He believed that, from previous media exposure, Huawei has a larger first-mover advantage in algorithms in the self-driving car, and the layout of the LIDAR industry.
In response, the Chairman said, "It is unacceptable for SAIC to cooperate with a third-party company like Huawei for autonomous driving."
Chen continued, "It is just like that a company provides us with the overall solution. In this way, it becomes the soul, and SAIC would be the body."
"For such an outcome, SAIC cannot accept it. And the company has to keep the soul in its own hands," Chen added.
