Asian Tech Press (SEP 14) -- South Korea, which has two major memory chip makers, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, is an important global supplier of memory chips. Memory chips are also an important export commodity for the country.

According to data released by South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT, South Korea's memory chip exports hit $7.67 billion in August, up 51.2% year-on-year, driven by strong demand for mobile devices and computers.

In addition to memory chips, South Korea's exports of logic chips also increased significantly in August, with exports reaching $3.56 billion, up 31.2 percent year-on-year.

Driven by the significant increase in memory chips and logic chips exports, South Korea's chip exports increased to $11.79 billion in August, up 42.2 percent year-on-year.

South Korea's panel exports also increased significantly in August, reaching $2.21 billion, up 22.4% year-on-year, including $1.4 billion in OLED panel exports, up 47.3% year-on-year.
