Asian Tech Press (OCT 11) -- According to media reports, Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India Nitin Gadkari pointed out that Tesla will not be able to export Model 3 and Model Y cars made in Tesla Giga Shanghai to India. If Tesla wants to enter the Indian market, its cars should be produced in India.

Currently, Tesla Giga Shanghai produces cars for the Chinese market and global markets such as Germany and Japan. Due to the fierce competition in the electric car sector worldwide, Tesla has been opening factories in major countries and regions across the globe.

Nitin Gadkari said Tesla could build a factory in India. If so, the Indian government will also provide full financial support.

In July, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that Tesla is "very likely" to build an electric car factory in India, but only if the company can import vehicles at a lower tax rate. An Indian official said the government hadn't confirmed a lower tariff, but discussions were underway.'

The Indian government has expressed a willingness to discuss tax incentives with Tesla as it seeks to offer affordable electric vehicles in India.
