Asia Tech Wire (Oct 25) -- OpenAI is disbanding its AGI readiness team, which was tasked with evaluating the company and its ability to develop and globally manage artificial intelligence technology, according to CNBC.
Miles Brundage, a senior advisor to the AGI readiness team, announced his departure on Substack on Wednesday.
Brundage noted that the main reason for his departure was that there were more opportunities for external research, and he wanted to minimize bias and complete his mission at OpenAI.
He believes that neither OpenAI nor other leading labs are fully ready in terms of AGI readiness, and the same is true globally.
Brundage plans to create or join a non-profit organization focused on AI policy research and advocacy, emphasizing that lack of coordination makes it difficult for AI to be safe and beneficial.
