NYT asks AI startup Perplexity to stop accessing its content
Oct.16,2024

Asia Tech Wire (Oct 16) -- The New York Times has sent a "cease and desist" notice to generative AI startup Perplexity, demanding that it stop accessing and using its content, according to the Wall Street Journal.

NYT has joined other publishers, including Forbes and Conde Nast, who have accused Perplexity of using their material to generate AI search results without permission.

The publisher has previously filed a lawsuit against ChatGPT developer OpenAI, which is currently pending.

The notice from the New York Times, sent through its law firm, alleges that the way Perplexity uses its content, including creating summaries and other outputs, violates its rights under copyright law.
