Asian Tech Press (Jan 5) -- U.S. chipmaker Nvidia Corp said Tuesday it has struck more deals with Chinese electric vehicle (EV) makers that want to use the company's technology to catch up with Tesla Inc.

Nvidia vice president Ali Kani, speaking at the CES technology conference, listed several Chinese EV startups that will use Nvidia's DRIVE technology as part of the computer brains for their new cars, including Polestar, Xpeng, Nio, IM Motors, Li Auto and R Auto.

The chipmaker is also looking for growth in the emerging automated truck business, and earlier Tuesday said San Diego-based robo-truck company TuSimple will use its chips to develop self-driving semi trucks.

The company uses Chinese partners and Chinese data centers to assure data used to train the artificial intelligence in cars stays in China, said Danny Shapiro, Nvidia's vice president for automotive.
