Asian Tech Press (Nov 26) -- Japan's third-largest automaker Nissan Motor Co Ltd will increase the proportion of electric vehicles sold, including pure electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid vehicles (HVs), to 50% by 2030, The Nikkei reported Thursday.
In terms of segment targets, Nissan hopes to expand the share of EVs to 80% in Europe and about 50% in China by that time, the report said.
By 2020, EVs account for 10% of Nissan's global sales, with only 2% in China and 10% in Europe. And Nissan will focus on these two regions, where environmental regulations have been strengthened, to accelerate its electrification plans.
For Nissan, China is the largest market with sales of 1.45 million units in 2020, and 390,000 units in Europe. And the two regions account for 50% of global sales.
Nissan plans to transform its UK plant, the only production base in Europe, into a factory dedicated to electric vehicles. And the plant will be remodeled so that one production line can produce both pure electric and hybrid vehicles.
