Asian Tech Press (Feb 15) -- The president of Japanese video game company Nintendo Co Ltd said there are no metaverse related plans for now.
In terms of NFT and the metaverse, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said during the company's year-end investor Q&A in early February that the metaverse is being watched by many companies around the world, and it is clear that the field has great potential.
He mentioned that when introducing the concept of metaverse, people also use Nintendo Switch games like "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" as an example. "In that sense, the metaverse is of interest to us," said Furukawa.
Furukawa also said that at this stage, there is no way to clearly define the form of the metaverse or figure out what kind of surprise and fun it will bring to users.
As a company that provides entertainments, he said, it is the most important thing for Nintendo to offer surprise and fun to players.
The head pointed out that if the company could find a way to convey a "Nintendo approach" to the metaverse that many people could understand, it would consider something.
"But we do not think that is the situation at the present time," Furukawa concluded.
