Asian Tech Press (Dec 17) -- Chinese state-owned automaker FAW Group Corp. reportedly plans to sell its high-end electric SUV in Japan next summer.

The company plans to sell an electric SUV in Japan next summer after launching a hybrid version of the SUV under its luxury Hongqi brand in the Japanese market, Nikkei reported Friday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The electric SUV is expected to cost at least 11 million yen ($9,670 billion) excluding taxes and have a cruising range of 690 kilometers on a single charge, the report said. It is a flagship model that will also be exported to Europe.

The car body will be modified to meet Japanese charging standards and the complete vehicle will be shipped from a factory in China.

FAW is also considering selling a new luxury electric car in Japan after the launch of the SUV.

In addition, the Chinese automaker will set up its first dealership in front of JR Namba Station in Osaka City, Nikkei said. It is also considering opening a store in Tokyo in 2022 before expanding to other cities.
