Asian Tech Press (May 12) -- Japanese video game company Nintendo Co Ltd will release its next-generation console in 2024, an analyst predicted.

Sales of Nintendo's best-selling gaming console Switch exceeded 100 million units at the end of December last year, making it the seventh game console with over 100 million sales.

According to Nintendo's earnings results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2022, sales of Switch hardware were 23.06 million units, down 20.0% year-over-year, with cumulative sales reaching 107.6 million units.

Piers Harding-Rolls, head of games research at Ampere Analysis, predicted that Nintendo will release its next-generation console in 2024.

He believed that Switch sales will inevitably decline, and that the situation will continue until the release of the next-generation console.

The analyst estimated that even with the release of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 in 2023, Switch sales will continue to see year-over-year declines as it approaches the end of its lifecycle.
