Asian Tech Press (OCT 13) -- Netflix's original Korean drama 'Squid Game' has been online for 26 days and has exceeded 100 million viewers worldwide.
Netflix said on the 13th that 111 million viewers around the world watched 'Squid Game'. Since its launch on the 17th of last month, the show has topped the "Viewing Ranks" in 94 countries, and it is the first time that a non-English series of Netflix has led the top 10 list for 21 consecutive days in the United States.
Minyoung Kim, vice president of content production for the Asia Pacific region (excluding India), said that when Netflix started investing in Korea in 2015, its goal was to produce world-class Korean original content, and 'Squid Game' has turned the imagination into reality.
Entertainment magazine Variety commented that the character Sung Ki-hoon's persona is both Korean and resonates around the world. Bloomberg quoted experts saying that the Korean team can create films and dramas that can compete with Hollywood.
