Asian Tech Press (Nov 05) -- A financial dispute has reportedly arisen between Netflix and South Korean broadband service providers. A Netflix executive recently clarified its position on network bandwidth usage fees, saying it will not pay South Korean ISPs (Internet service providers) for data traffic resulting from its video service.
Dean Garfield, Netflix's vice president for public policy affairs, arrived in South Korea in hopes of resolving the dispute over network usage fees. This week, he had a series of meetings with South Korean government officials and lawmakers.
Dean Garfield said that Netflix will not pay broadband companies for network usage. Still, given the current climate of public opinion in Korea, Netflix is willing to share the profits generated by the platform's local hit series "Squid Game" with local South Korean film and television production companies.
