Asian Tech Press (Jan 07) -- Myanmar's State Administration Council announced changes to the Union tax law and the addition of a levy of Internet business tax, state television reported on the evening of Jan. 6.
The announcement said that to raise state revenue and reduce excessive Internet use, a commercial tax will be levied on 15 percent of revenue from Internet services, and a commercial tax of 20,000 kyats will be levied on each new cell phone card upon activation. At the same time, telephone calls and text messages will not be subject to the tax for the time being.
