Asian Tech Press (SEP 29) -- Microsoft announced that it will further open its app store on Windows and invite third-party storefront apps to integrate into the Microsoft Store. By then, apps such as Epic Games, Amazon and others will be able to integrate their app stores into the Microsoft Store.

Giorgio Sardo, general manager of the Microsoft Store, explained: "Like any other app, third-party storefront apps will have the same product detail pages to find by searching or browsing so users can easily find and install them. The Amazon and Epic Games stores will be coming to the Microsoft Store in the next few months, and we look forward to adding in other storefront apps."

The only difference is Microsoft's partnership with Amazon. Microsoft will launch Android apps on Windows 11, including discovering and searching the Amazon App Store directly from the Microsoft Store. A preview version of this integration will soon be available to Windows Insiders members.

In addition, Microsoft has said it will not be taking any share of app developers' revenue when apps manage their in-app payment systems.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney tweeted, "Microsoft is again leading the industry forward with Windows, now an open platform with an open store." It also seems to be an allusion to the closed nature of the Apple Store.
