Asian Tech Press (Dec 30) -- LG Display has announced its next-generation OLED technology, OLED EX, which will provide a 30 percent brightness increase and improved picture accuracy compared to current OLED displays, allowing smaller bezels in the finished product.
These improvements are said to be enabled by two fundamental changes. The first is using an element known as deuterium in the chemical composition of LG's OLED panels, followed by the incorporation of algorithmic image processing.
LG says it will predict the use of each light-emitting diode in a TV set based on the user's individual viewing habits to "precisely (control) the energy input to the display to more accurately display the played video content details and colors of the video content being played."
By reducing the thickness by 30 percent, LG Display said that the OLED EX displays will have thinner bezels and provide a more immersive viewing experience with a premium design.
LG said it plans to integrate OLED EX technology into all OLED panels starting in the second quarter of 2022, though it is unclear how long it will take for the technology to reach consumers.
