Asian Tech Press (Jan 17) -- According to media reports, LG Innotek will supply over 1 trillion won worth of electronic cameras to Tesla. The supply contract will be completed, and mass production will begin within the first quarter.
It is reported that the cameras will be installed on Tesla's Model Y and Model 3 for the North American and European markets, as well as the soon-to-be-released electric truck semi. With Tesla's Texas Giga factory about to begin operations, the company has ordered large parts, seeking to diversify its supply of key electric vehicle components.
LG Innotek has been supplying Tesla since last year, but the supply volume was only tens of billions of won, and if this contract is completed successfully, the volume of the deal will be 10 times that of last year.
Currently, Korean companies gradually occupy a growing share of the Tesla parts supply chain. Last year, Tesla and Samsung Electro-Mechanics signed a 49 billion won contract to supply camera modules. Although affected by the shortage of semiconductors, Tesla is increasing its electric car production every year, and its production capacity is expected to double to 2 million units this year.
