Asian Tech Press (Dec 13) -- LG Energy Solution and General Motors (GM) are considering investing $2 billion to build their third joint venture battery plant in Michigan, U.S., according to the Wall Street Journal.

The two companies previously formed the Ultium Cells joint venture and are building battery plants in Ohio and Tennessee. If they decide to build another plant in Michigan, it will be their third joint battery plant in the U.S.

Last week, GM submitted its application for tax incentives to the city council of Lansing, Michigan's capital city. The company reportedly plans to build a battery production plant in Delta Township to create 1,700 new jobs in Lansing by 2026.

Additionally, GM is pushing to convert its Orion assembly plant in suburban Detroit, Michigan, into a production center for electric pickup trucks.
