LG Display seeks to launch transparent OLEDs into the EU and U.S. markets

Asian Tech Press (Dec 21) -- According to media reports, LG Display Vice President Cho Min-woo has recently made frequent overseas visits. It is reported that he is pushing the company's T-OLED (Transparent Organic Light-Emitting Devices) technology to Europe and the United States.

LG Display's T-OLED panels serve as windows and screens for projecting advertisements and other information. LG Display launched the product two and a half years ago and has placed it on subways and tourist trains in several cities in China and Japan for testing this year, and hopes to expand its market applications further. In addition to providing a new service for advertisers, the T-OLED panels can display news and weather information and information from transportation and travel websites. LG says passengers will eventually be able to watch movies and sporting events. Choo Cho Wan said customer feedback has been excellent, bringing a new business model.

The company is now looking to Europe, a potentially massive market given its long and complex rail network. In September, LG Display partnered with Israeli smart glass technology company Gauzy for the first time to showcase T-OLED at the International Motor Show 2021 in Munich. This collaboration enhances its application in the future of HUDs, transparent displays that allow users to see the data displayed on them without changing the direction of their eyes, for example, in vehicles such as cars.

After the Munich Motor Show, Cho Min-woo visited New York this month to meet with potential customers in the U.S. construction industry, setting his sights back on architectural applications. He said it can be used anywhere there is glass or windows. T-OLED is reportedly already in use at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
