Asian Tech Press (Jan 10) -- According to media reports, LG Chem and Huayou Cobalt's joint venture in South Korea will produce nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminum (NCMA) cathodes, and the plant's construction will start next week.

The NCMA cathodes will improve the energy density of batteries. The NCMA cathodes produced by the joint venture between LG Chem and Huayou Cobalt will be used to produce the batteries needed for electric vehicles with a range of 500-600 kilometers.

The joint venture between LG Chem and Huayou Cobalt, called LG BCM, will be located in Gumi, South Korea, and the NCMA cathodes produced by this joint venture will have a nickel content of more than 80%.

China's Huayou Cobalt Co., Ltd is primarily a supplier of cobalt, including cobalt tetroxide, cobalt oxide, cobalt carbonate, cobalt hydroxide, cobalt oxalate, cobalt sulfate, and cobalt monoxide.
