Asia Tech Wire (Oct 21) -- Lenovo is not trying to ask automakers for data with its car computing business, an executive said.
According to Chinese media Jiemian, Rui Yong, president of Lenovo's Emerging Technology Group (ETG), said in a recent interview that Lenovo will never build cars, and will only look at automobiles as the next huge opportunity for computing scenarios.
He claimed that large-scale complex computing systems are what Lenovo has in its DNA.
Lenovo is optimistic about the AI-defined car computing track, and the future of computing on smart cars will greatly depend on the demand for AI computing power, he added.
Rui said that Lenovo's entry into the field of smart cars is not to ask car companies for data, but will focus on computing platforms, located in the role of computing power platform provider.
In July of this year, Rui stepped down as CTO of Lenovo Group and became president of the newly established ETG.
