Asian Tech Press (Dec 28) -- California-based video game developer Riot Games Inc. reportedly settled a 2018 gender-based discrimination class-action lawsuit and agreed to pay $100 million in damages and legal fees.

The Washington Post reported that under the settlement agreement announced Monday, Riot Games will pay a total of $80 million to women who are current, former employees and contractors since November 2014. And the money will be distributed through a fund that is currently awaiting court approval.

Another $20 million will go toward attorney fees and other expenses, and the company has agreed to have a third party oversee its payments for three years, the game developer said in a statement.

Founded in 2006, Riot Games is best known for its popular video game League of Legends. In 2015, Chinese gaming and social media giant Tencent Holdings Ltd acquired 100% of the remaining shares of the company, making it a wholly owned subsidiary of Tencent.
