KT Corporation apologizes for network paralysis, compensation plan will be made
Oct.26,2021

Asian Tech Press (OCT 26) -- Hyeon-Mo Ku, CEO of KT Corporation (formerly Korea Telecom, KT), issued an official apology for the massive network outage that occurred the day before and stated that a compensation plan will be made as soon as possible.

Ku said that the company initially speculated that it had been hit by a massive distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack due to traffic overload. Still, after careful investigation, it was found that the incident was caused by a setup error during the equipment replacement process, and is now working with the South Korean government to investigate the cause of the incident further.

The CEO said the company is deeply responsible for the inconvenience caused by Internet service paralysis. The company will carefully examine and improve the system and make a compensation plan as soon as possible to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

KT's wired and wireless Internet services were disrupted for approximately one hour and 25 minutes from approximately 11:20 a.m. on the 25th. After the incident, various services based on KT's Internet, such as the web portal, securities trading system, store payment system, and corporate business system, were paralyzed. Some users were unable to receive calls and customer service calls were not available. (Yonhap)
