Asia Tech Wire (Oct 22) -- Japanese electronic parts maker TDK Corp. has developed a multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) for wireless charging of pure electric vehicles, according to Nikkei.
The capacitor, which serves to control current, is capable of withstanding high voltages of up to 1,250 volts, about 1.2 times that of conventional products.
TDK believes that this will help shorten the charging time of pure electric vehicles, and plans to begin mass production of the capacitors at Honjo Factory West site in Akita, Japan in December.
To realize wireless charging, it is expected that each vehicle will carry hundreds of MLCCs.
In addition, TDK also expects demand to exist for industrial robots and other fields, and will produce 1 million units per month.
