Huawei sues Temu owner Pinduoduo in China for copyright infringement

Asia Tech Wire (May 17) -- Chinese tech giant Huawei is suing Pinduoduo, the owner of e-commerce platform Temu, for copyright infringement.

Xuhui District People's Court of Shanghai will hear the case of Huawei Technologies Co Ltd vs Pinduoduo affiliate Shanghai Dream Information Technology Co Ltd and Shenzhen Hongshunsen Technology Co Ltd in a dispute over the ownership and infringement of related trademark rights on May 28th.

Some Chinese consumers claimed in 2019 that the Huawei earphones they bought from Pinduoduo had poor sound quality, and that the internal workmanship was rough and simple after disassembling them, making them suspected to be fakes.

At the time, Huawei said that Pinduoduo was not its authorized channel, and that it had not opened an official flagship store on the e-commerce platform, nor had it authorized any third-party store to operate on the platform.

Huawei has repeatedly recommended online that consumers shop through platforms such as Huawei Vmall, its official flagship stores on Tmall and JD.com, as well as at local Huawei experience stores.
