Asian Tech Press (OCT 22) -- Congressional documents released show that Chinese telecom giant Huawei and China's largest chipmaker SMIC got billions of dollars worth of U.S. technology export licenses between November 2020 and April 2021, despite being on the U.S. trade blacklist.

According to Reuters, a U.S. congressional hearing on Thursday revealed that Huawei and SMIC received hundreds of billions of dollars worth of U.S. technology export licenses between November 2020 and April 2021. Public documents show that 113 export licenses worth $61 billion were granted to Huawei suppliers, while 188 export licenses worth nearly $42 billion were granted to SMIC suppliers.

The U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs committee obtained the information from the Commerce Department in May. The committee voted Thursday to approve a request by Republican member Michael McCaul to release the licensing data.
