Google announced that the Play Store applications would be changed from .apk format to .aab format starting in August. Android App Bundle (.aab) has advantages, including smaller application size, more secure key signature, custom function module delivery.
There were concerns about whether the replacement of APK meant that some applications would not continue to be compatible with Huawei's HarmonyOS operating system.
In response, Huawei stressed that the adjustment by Google would not affect the development of HarmonyOS. Dr. Wang Chenglu, president of Huawei Consumer Business Software, explained that Google's AAB is similar to HarmonyOS's Atomic Service concept.
Atomic Service is a future-oriented application form provided by HarmonyOS. Compared with the traditional application form that needs to be installed, the installation-free Atomic Service can meet the user's needs in different scenarios and on different devices and provide applications with various entrances and more accurate distribution.
