Asia Tech Wire (Sep 18) -- Huawei and Chinese automaker Chery's first coupe SUV, the Luxeed R7, is coming to market to challenge the Tesla Model Y.

Media reports on Wednesday said that Huawei will hold a new product launch event on September 24, when it will likely allow consumers to start making down payments on Luxeed R7 cars.

Huawei said, "Huawei will hold a launch event next week and there will be an announcement about the car."

And considering the previous news, the launch event will probably announce information about the Luxeed R7.

Official information shows that the Luxeed R7, with its position as a pure electric coupe SUV, is the first coupe SUV under Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), a Huawei-led automotive alliance.

Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei's Intelligent Automotive Solutions BU, previously said, "The Tesla Model Y is a very good and excellent product with very good sales in the pure electric SUV market."

"The goal of the Luxeed R7 is to be even better than the Model Y and to compete with the Model Y across the board with specifications that surpass the Tesla Model X," Yu added.
