Asian Tech Press (Jan 6) -- A Chinese Honda joint venture said Wednesday it will build a new 120,000-vehicle-a-year electric vehicle plant.

The leading Japanese automaker announced that its joint venture in China, Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd., will build a new dedicated electric vehicle (EV) production plant.

The new factory is located in Wuhan Economic Development Zone in Hubei Province, and is planned to be put into operation in 2024, covering an area of approximately 630,000 square meters, with a basic annual production capacity of 120,000 units.

The voluntary announcement indicated that the plant is Honda's first new energy benchmark plant. It will make full use of renewable energy such as solar energy, adopt water recycling and other measures to save resources, and reduce the emission of air pollutants such as volatile organic compounds.

Dongfeng Honda is a complete vehicle production and operation enterprise jointly established by Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd. and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. with 50% investment each.
